The TY Trade fair took place in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 13th December. This is the culmination of months of hard work by the Transition Year business students and their teachers, Ms. Phillips, Ms. McArdle and Ms Finnegan.
Earlier in the year TY students spent time in class surveying and questioning what products they can market and sell. They are encouraged to be innovative and show entrepreneurial skills. On the day of the Trade Fair, they display and hopefully sell their products to the community. Many products were on sale on the day, from popcorn to pancakes, home décor to sports equipment.
One group crafted comfortable dog beds made from recycled tyres and hoses from old hoovers. Maybe we will see them on Dragon’s Den in the future.
The students really enjoyed the experience of working in a business like situation, having complete independence over their ideas and products and even making a profit at the end of it all.
It gave the opportunity to many people in the local area to buy unique Christmas gifts. Well done to the 95 business students and their teachers.
24 Mini Enterprises set up stands. The students were supported and supervised by their teachers Joanne Finnegan, Joan McArdle and Pamela Phillips. The mini enterprises were as follows:
1. Fab Frames
2. Bits and Bobs
