On Tuesday 24th of April, the 5th year music students in Ardee Community School , along with their music teacher, Ms Duffy, organised the final of the annual school talent competition ‘Search For a Star’ which was held in the school. Ten different acts took part in the final after getting through the auditions which were held a few weeks previously. There was a variety of performances from singing to instrumental performances including piano, guitar, ukele and violin. The show was a huge success and gave students a platform to express themselves and showcase their talent. There was great support from parents, friends and members of staff on the night and the audience shared 50% of the vote. The other 50% came from the judges; Ms Babington, Ms Finnegan, Ms Wynne and Mr Marron. Of course, there had to be a winner on the night and 2nd year student, Emmett Carroll, took home first place. Emmett sang a fantastic version of Passenger’s ‘Wrong Direction’ also playing the guitar. As Ms Finnegan said herself, Emmett is definitely headed in the right direction! Zoe Myles took home 2nd place singing ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys. Zoe put on such a powerful performance that we thought we had Alicia Keys herself in the room! 3rd place went to the 5th year group who sang and played their version of ‘Count on Me’ by Bruno Mars. The irony of this rang true as they sang about friendship to end the competition and we could all see the wonderful bond the group shared. On behalf of myself and everyone else who took part in the competition, I would like to thank the 5th year music students, the judges, Ms Duffy and everyone else who helped make the night a huge success!
