Awards Day 2018


The Ardee Community School Awards ceremony took place on Thursday, 3rd May in the Dalton room. Comperes were Cormac Rafferty, head boy, and Katie Commins, head girl. Niamh Crawley, chairperson of student council gave a speech where she said how honoured and privileged she is to represent the students in the school. She mentioned the wonderful successes over the year with the senior boys’ gaelic winning an All Ireland title and the rugby team winning a Leinster final. Niamh mentioned the ethos which the council promotes which is excellence in all areas of school life.

Guest speaker was Barry Landy, journalist with the ‘Dundalk Democrat’ and past pupil of A.C.S. Barry talked about his journey through school, how he considered himself an “ordinary” student who didn’t work as hard as he should have. However, he took the longer route to university and qualified at the age of 25. He has worked in print and online journalism, radio and T.V. Barry listed all the things that are in the school now, which weren’t there when he was at school - Transition year to name but one.

Barry commended the students present who were getting awards. He recognised and showed an appreciation for their hard work.

Awards were given for academic excellence, exam results, sports, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Ms Jackson, principal, congratulated all the students on their awards. She also talked of her appreciation for all the hard work done by the teaching staff and the awards committee. Congratulations to all the award winners!
