Hard luck to the first year boys’ soccer team who played their hearts out but lost 4-2 on Wednesday.
It looked promising for the Ardee side at the start when after 5 minutes Keelin Martin give a through ball to Jack Dowdall who took a shot that was stopped by the keeper. Two minutes later another shot by Jack appeared to be over the goal line but was controversially not given.
At 13 minutes, The Grammar got a corner and their first shot and went 1-0. Less than a minute later, a free to Ardee was taken by Joe Rogers and was bicycled into the net by Adam Gillespie which was without a doubt the goal of the season. Moments later, Jonah Higgins pulled off a great save to keep the sides level.
Another through ball by Keelin Martin left Adam Gillespie one on one with the keeper which he again finished in style leaving the score 2-1 to Ardee.
To finish out the first half, the Dundalk side scored 2 goals in quick succession, one from a penalty and the other their only goal from open play in the game.
The second half was played much tighter from both sides the only score being from a Grammar free going in just out of the keeper’s reach. Ardee had a few shots at goal in the dying minutes of the game but to no success, leaving the final score, Grammar 4-2 Ardee.
Man of the Match was Captain,Adam Gillespie, who has lead by example all year.
I would like to thank the TY students, Ryan Halpenny, Ciaran Baylon, Myles Aver and Aaron Connell for their help with the gear, warm ups and team selection. I would also like to thank all the lads on the squad for putting in such a great effort all year and it has been a pleasure to manage you.
